Rustic Fringe

Our Story

The Story Behind Rustic Fringe

I’ve always loved Highland Cows.  There’s something about that shaggy fringe and that calm, unbothered face that’s had a soft spot in my heart for years, long before Rustic Fringe was ever an idea.

That love turned into a want.  I found myself wishing I had my own mug and my own bag with a Highland Cow on them, something with real personality rather than anything I could find on the high street.  The idea sat there for a while, waiting for the right nudge.

That nudge came from a wooden chopping board, a Highland Cow engraved into it, bold lines and all.  Seeing it made something click.  I found myself imagining that same cow reimagined in a soft watercolour and ink style and decided it was finally time to make it real.  That’s where Rustic Fringe began.

What we're here to do

We create characterful Highland Cow gifts that bring a little warmth, personality and genuine joy to everyday life, all with a quietly British feel.

Who it's for

Rustic Fringe is for anyone who loves cosy homeware, thoughtful gifts and a bit of personality on their stationery.  Highland Cow enthusiasts will feel right at home too, but you don’t need to love Highland Cows already.  Most people fall for the feeling first, and the cow second.

Meet the herd

Every Rustic Fringe cow has a name and a personality.  Some are dreamers, some are wanderers and a couple of them are far too pleased with themselves.

Meet the herd

The Daydreamer

Gazing softly upward, miles away in her own thoughts.  Peaceful, content, completely unbothered.

The Dreamer

Looking up into the breeze, full of quiet hope.

The Wanderer

Eyes on the horizon, always ready for the next field over.

The Curious One

Head tilted, utterly nosey, in the nicest possible way.

The Gentle Soul

Calm and kind, the one everyone goes to for a chat.

Meet the herd

The Comedian

Tongue out, always the one making everyone laugh.

The Joker

Life’s too serious for this one.

The Trickster

Just caused some mischief.  No regrets.

The Show-Off

Knows exactly how good that fringe looks.

The Confused One

Has completely forgotten what she was doing.  We’ve all been there.

And a small friend

A little British robin has started turning up across the herd, perched on a horn, tucked into a fringe, keeping an eye on things.  Not decoration.  A proper companion character and one we’ll be developing further as the range grows.

What you won't find here

No generic wildlife art or farmyard branding.  Every cow has a name and a personality, not just a coat.

No tartan and thistle cliches.  The Highland heritage is in there, quietly, never laid on thick.

No neon, no cold corporate minimalism, no flat cartoon faces.  If it doesn’t make you smile, it doesn’t make the cut.
